Case Study: The Art of the Table lamp Design

Video: The Art of the Table lamp Design

The Art of the lamp- This video is about the Psychology of table lamp designs - By Linda Allen

Remember when a nightlight meant everything to you? Well to me that may have been the first time I really appreciated a lamp. I never knew its hidden power until much later when I found myself designing light fixtures for Disney, to help tell a story. Because lamps can tell us not only about the person, but the life they live. They can set the date, time of day, create the mood, guide the eye and yes melt the heart. How the wrong type of light can make someone uncomfortable, or the right type a little too comfortable.

Now lamps and other cultures especially give us insight to what others believe in, the resources they use and why. And as an interior and lighting designer, lamps have become well rather special to me, they give me a glimpse where one's head is at how they live, feel and what they like. But to me lamps create moments, so the next time you find yourself saying that's a great lamp, ask why…
